Showit Website design tips to get started!

Building a brand and a website is a process; doing it in the correct order can save you time, money, and, most importantly, your sanity! After helping dozens of clients through the website design process, I have figured out a tried and true way to get it done and save your sanity at the same time! There are things you need to know before you start! I hope you find this checklist helpful, and as always, feel free to email me if you ever have questions at aimeedanielsondesigns@gmail.com.

SHOWIT WEBSITE

Your business name and domain name

If you are an established business or entrepreneur, you probably already have a name, but if you do not, this is important. Your business name is hard to change in the future. When you figure out your name, you will want to check out Go Daddy and see if your name is available. If it is available, then you will want to purchase it! You may even want to capture a couple of other domains and purchase those because you can redirect them to your website.

Branding tips when designing your Showit Website

Branding and logos are important so people will recognize your business based on these two things. Your branding colors and Logo have to make sense for your services, and you will want these things to really stand out and accurately represent you and your business. When people see those colors and those elements in a logo, their minds will automatically think of you!.

Let us take a look at my Logo! My Logo has a mountain range, and this was chosen because my business, family, and extracurricular activities are based in the Pacific Northwest and Wyoming. My services are themed toward nature! If your branding and Logo are outdated, do not be afraid to tackle the job and rebrand and give them a fresh look! Sometimes outdated branding can be more harmful to your business without branding and Logo. I mean if it is looking 30 years old…. You need a refresh!

Photos on your website

You can never have too many photos! I suggest getting the best quality photos to download on your website. Most platforms have specifications and directions for downloading the photo, so it will look sharp and clear when your website is launched. Good photos will also help your SEO, and low quality could negatively affect your SEO. I would always suggest businesses get a photographer for branding photos if you can. If you cannot do branding photos before you launch, there are some free websites for really good high quality stock photos you can use! . Do a google search 🙂

SEO – Search Engine Optimization (how you rank on google)

You will want to do some SEO research before the you build your new Website design. When you have your branding done and figure out who your ideal audience is, you will base your SEO on those factors and a couple of other factors. For example, if you live in Seattle and want to do family photography, Seattle & Family Photography is a great place to start.

During the build, you will also keep those SEO keywords in mind when renaming your photos, building your pages, naming your pages, and on the back end for the Metadata for the pages.

Aesthetics and the functionality of your website are critical when ranking on Google. Google is smart enough to know if people can navigate your website on mobile and desktop and when you have a user-friendly website, it helps your rank

The longer people stay on your website, the better you rank

Your content has to capture the user’s attention in 3-5 seconds, or they move on

  • Set up your website to crawl on google after it is live
  • Keywords are included in the wordsmithing.

  • Is your website secure?
  • Consistent branding
  • Using Yoast on the backend SO MUCH more… but this list is an excellent place to start.

Google Analytics & a Blog

I always suggest setting up Google Analytics on your website and starting a blog. Google Analytics is free, and if you want to up your search engine optimization game in the future, this is valuable. It will also help you see who your audience is and where they are coming from and what shifts you may have to make when updating the website.

Do not forget the blog when designing your Showit Website

Websites will get nearly 500% more exposure and rank higher if they have regularly updated blogs. This is also important data to have if you want to hire an SEO specialist down the road to target a specific audience. Starting a blog will also help you build trust with your audience and help people see you as an authority in your industry.
